| 10 September 2002 Customers using Caledonian MacBrayne’s ferry terminal at Gourock will soon see the benefits of a programme of road works and improvements to the traffic management system Care should be taken when approaching the ferry terminal while the work is in progress and additional time should be allowed for in the circumstances, as there could be some minor disruption to the traffic flow as the work proceeds. Caledonian MacBrayne Public Affairs Manager Hugh Dan MacLennan said: “Most of the work is being done beyond the main traffic areas, but there will inevitably be some encroachment on to the road surface while the work is going on. There is some cabling to be completed on the approaches to the main office complex and some of the parking spaces in the middle of the traffic area have been used to accommodate contractors’ equipment. However, once we have completed the work, the benefits will be there for all to see and the enhanced waiting and turning areas and better lane control should lead to a better traffic flow during all the hours we operate.” The improvements to the traffic system at the pier-head include a new traffic-light controlled regime for commercial vehicles, removal of the small roundabout at the approaches to the car parking lanes, a designated drop-off point, and improved access for vehicles wishing to turn round and head back out Tarbet Street having deposited passengers. Meanwhile, CalMac has confirmed that refurbishment of the passenger waiting area at the Gourock terminal has been more or less completed. The finishing touches are now being put to the improved waiting area and facilities for passengers. More comfortable seating has been supplied and the whole area has been redecorated with a new colour scheme and enhanced flooring. | |
