Caledonian MacBrayne customers cash in
07 January 2003

Caledonian MacBrayne has introduced a major improvement to the services it offers to its customers and the communities it serves, enabling access to cash facilities at a number of ports and terminals.

Automated cash machines have been installed at sixteen terminals operated by the company across its network of west coast ferry services. The cash machines allow customers access to cash upon arriving at or departing from the ferry terminal. An added benefit will see the introduction of limited banking facilities into communities which have, to date, not been offered services by the financial community.

Alasdair McNicoll, Caledonian MacBrayne’s Director of Strategic Development, said: “The company is actively seeking ways in which it can enhance the service it provides to its customers and the new cash machines are an example of our commitment. We have been aware for some time of the non-existence or withdrawal of local banking services in some of the communities we serve. We hope that local people, as well as our passengers, will welcome the added convenience that these machines will bring.”

Caledonian MacBrayne has entered into a contract with Moneybox Corporation which is supplying the machines. Steve Clarke, Managing Director of Moneybox’s Cashbox Division, said: “Moneybox is delighted to be working with Caledonian MacBrayne. Like CalMac, we recognise the importance of customer service and we are pleased to be able to deliver to the people of these communities the same level of cash access as enjoyed in more urban environments.”

The new machines are located inside the CalMac waiting rooms and can be accessed during normal port opening hours. Cash machines have been installed at the following locations:

Largs, Ardrossan, Brodick (Isle of Arran), Rothesay and Colintraive (Isle of Bute), Wemyss Bay, Gourock, Kennacraig, Port Ellen (Islay), Oban, Craignure (Isle of Mull), Uig (Isle of Skye), Mallaig, Armadale (Isle of Skye), Lochmaddy (North Uist) and Ullapool.
