Ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne is gearing up for the 2004 summer season with an Open Day later this week, to which suitably qualified candidates for recruitment are invited.
The company has begun advertising opportunities for a range of ranks and disciplines required for temporary vacancies in the Hebridean and
Clyde fleet. Permanent positions may be available at the end of the summer contracts to suitable candidates. Seagoing experience & STCW qualifications are preferred.
KeithUnderhill, CalMac’s Fleet Manager, who is driving the recruitment campaign said: “We are inviting anyone interested in seagoing employment with CalMac to bring their certificates along to our Open Day at the Quality Hotel (Douglas Suite), 99 Gordon Street, Glasgow on Friday, February 27 between 10am–4pm and 6pm-8pm. We will be delighted to meet anyone interested in the career opportunities available now and perhaps in the medium to longer term. If anyone is unable to attend but would like to register their credentials with us for consideration, they should send their CV and copies of qualifications to Alan Moffat, HR Manager, CalMac, Ferry Terminal, Gourock PA19 1QP. It is also possible for the first time to make an application through our online facility at www.calmac.co.uk and we are quite keen to hear from people who may have applied before but found there were no opportunities at the time.”
Mr Underhill also confirmed that CalMac is investigating the possibility of undertaking a number of Roadshow events to explain the careers available at CalMac in shore-based operations and for sea-going staff. School and college careers’ conventions are also being targeted and a range of careers information is being prepared for distribution.
Other venues are being explored throughout the CalMac network for the Roadshows as part of an information campaign and further details will be issued in due course through media outlets and on the CalMac website.
