| Caledonian MacBrayne introduce new discounts on ferry Sounds | |
| 16 April 2004 Caledonian MacBrayne has introduced two new discounted tickets which will provide major savings for regular users of the ferries across the Sounds of Harris and Barra.
The new tickets, which are available immediately, offer thirty single journeys or 15 returns in a year, at discounts of over 40% for cars.
CalMac Commercial Manager Bill Main explained: “The new fares are being introduced in response to requests from frequent users and they stand to benefit most. We believe that the discount offers the greatest savings to those who use the services most often and that is a reasonable proposition we were prepared to advance in the circumstances with both services now bedded in and performing very successfully. The discounts we are offering will match the pattern of traffic which has emerged on both routes and I am sure that there will be significant uptake.”
The savings on the fares are as follows
Sound of Barra Car single full Cost for 30 tickets Saving for 30 £16.25 £487.50 £201.50
Passenger single full cost for 30 Saving for 30 £5.50 £165 £53
Sound Harris Car single full Cost for 30 tickets Saving for 30 £23.70 £711.00 £296
Passenger single full cost for 30 Saving for 30 £5.20 £156 £50
The new tickets can only be purchased at ports relating to the two routes concerned: Castlebay/Lochboisdale for the Sound of Barra and Tarbert/Lochmaddy for the Sound of Harris, and Stornoway.
