FERRY TO BECOME TEMPORARY FLOATING ART GALLERY
Back
22 April 2009
Ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne is once again teaming up with Scottish artist John Lowrie Morrison to turn one of its major vessels into a floating art gallery, in conjunction with Kranenburg Fine Art of Oban.
This will be the eighth year that CalMac has hosted an exhibition of the artist’s work on a visual and musical cruise to Colonsay from Oban.
This year’s event is entitled “Steamer Dreaming: From Oban to Tobermory and Iona”, and will feature paintings specially prepared by the artist.
John, who signs his work ‘Jolomo’, will donate a significant percentage of the proceeds of his sales, as will CalMac and Kranenburg Fine Art, to The Princess Royal Trust North Argyll Carers Centre.
The exhibition will provide an opportunity to buy paintings, many of them depicting views which can be seen from CalMac ferries. Musical entertainment will also be provided and it is anticipated once again that demand will be high.
Susan Paterson, CalMac’s Marketing Manager said: “The Jolomo cruise has become one of the “must do” events of May and CalMac is delighted to be collaborating with John Lowrie Morrison once again. People regularly come from all parts of Scotland to join us on this unique trip and I am sure that once again it will be a most enjoyable evening”.
The Cruise will give guests the opportunity to cruise, dine and view the exhibition while MV Isle of Mull cruises between Oban and Colonsay (departing Oban 1700, arrival in Oban due at 2155). The exhibition will be opened by Florence Burke, Director of Scotland for The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
Guests will be entertained in the Oban Terminal by Oban High School pipers, and on board by the Allestri String Quartet. There will also be an auction and raffle of two Jolomo works, in aid of The Princess Royal Trust North Argyll Carers Centre.
Three different ticket options are on sale for the Cruise on 8 May:
· A Dinner Cruise, including drinks before the cruise, private viewing and private dinner (with table service) on board MV Isle of Mull. Tickets are priced at £47.50
· A Café Cruise, including pre-cruise drinks, private viewing and special Café Cruise dinner in “Mariners”, CalMac’s onboard Cafeteria. Tickets are priced at £25.00.
