Colonsay: Getting there/around

A delightful little island with a fascinating history, beautiful beaches and a cornucopia of flora and fauna.

If you have an interest in archaeology, this is the island for you. Artefacts dating back to the Stone Age have been found here and there are also many historical ruins and ecclesiastical relics on Colonsay and Oronsay, a tidal island that is ‘joined’ to Colonsay at low tide.

Both islands offer a wide range of natural habitats and as a result they are noted for the diversity of their wild flowers with more than four hundred species, including rare orchids, recorded. Otters and seals are regularly found along the coastline and birdwatchers can look out for up to 150 species including corncrake, choughs and golden eagles.
