
On all services except Wemyss Bay/Rothesay, Largs/Cumbrae, Colintraive/Rhubodach and Tarbert/Portavadie, all commercial vehicle drivers must produce a written declaration at the time of shipment giving a general description of the cargo, the Gross Vehicle Mass and detailing any relevant special properties of the cargo, in accordance with The Merchant Shipping (Carriage of Cargoes) Regulations 1999.
Vehicles travelling on services from Oban, Stornoway & Ullapool do not require this written declaration, as they must be weighed at the port. However, the description of cargo and relevant special properties must be declared at time of weighing. Only roadworthy vehicles within legal road limits will be accepted for shipment, unless by prior arrangement with the relevant Port Manager/Port Supervisor. The Company reserves the right to weigh vehicles and trailers at any port. Please note that there is a weight limit of 38 tonnes in Craignure (Mull).
