Cumbrae: Getting there/around

A favourite childhood destination for many, Cumbrae evokes memories of ice-creams and days spent building sandcastles.

A daytrip to Millport has been a Clyde coast institution for decades. It’s an ideal daytrip destination for the kids; with a safe beach to play on, crazy golf and ice-cream from the wonderfully old-fashioned Ritz Café, it’s the stuff that dreams are made of.

Pop over for a round of golf on the island’s 18 hole course or benefit from the world class instruction on offer at the National Watersports Centre. The centre provides coaching in dinghy sailing, cruising, windsurfing and sea kayaking for every level of enthusiast.

This really is a small island that offers something for everyone.

Cumbrae Top Tips

Visit Europe's smallest cathedral,The Cathedral of the Isles.

Take a walk up to the Glaid Stone, the highest point on the island. On a clear day you can see Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Bute and even the Paps of Jura.

Make a wish in the island's wishing well.

Cycle the quiet, easy roads round the island's 10.25 mile circumference.

Get your picture taken alongside Crocodile Rock. Definitely one for the album.
