Description:

This 1-1.5 hour workshop will allow participants to experience first hand the joys of Indian classical dance. The workshop will include an introductory talk about Indian classical dance, in terms of its origins and development.

The dance form that the workshop will focus on will be Bharatanatyam, with its rhythmic footwork, beautiful hand gestures and facial expressions. Participants will be taught some of the basic footwork which improves coordination of body and mind. They will also learn how different hand gestures and facial expressions are used to tell stories through dance. Finally a short dance sequence will be taught to music. This will be a wonderful opportunity to gain insight into the evening’s performance, particularly in terms of having a deeper understanding of the meanings of the hand gestures and movements.

Description:

An Lanntair Arts Centre runs a diverse year round arts programme including a monthly exhibitions programme, education and outreach activities and performing arts events promoting local, national and international artists. The centre also has a gift shop and coffee shop which serves home baking and light lunches in pleasant surroundings overlooking Stornoway Harbour. Open all year, Mon-Sat 10.00-17.30 and during performances.
