Lewis: Getting there/around

Lewis combines world famous archaeological sites with adventure activities.

Lewis is the largest of the Western Isles and has beautiful sandy beaches, a rugged coastline and a landscape worth investigating.

Stornoway is the main town on the Isle of Lewis. This bustling harbour town has lots to offer including a golf course, museum, An Lanntair Arts Centre and an abundance of restaurants.

Visit the Port of Ness which is a pretty harbour town and then drive down the west coast visiting many of the island's main attractions on the way, including the Blackhouse Museum and Shawbost Norse Mill.

Lewis is ideal for fishing, cycling, golfing, walking and bird watching.

Take time to visit the dramatic Standing Stones of Callanish which date back over 4000 years.

Visit the Butt of Lewis which is the most northerly point in the Western Isles.

Spend some time visiting the Carloway Broch – a hideaway once used by residents to escape the Vikings.

Take a stroll along one of the many spectacular sandy beaches.

Pay a visit to Lews Castle in Stornoway and take a walk in the extensive grounds for beautiful views of Stornoway harbour.
