Road Equivalent Tariff - RET

What is the background to the RET scheme?

In August 2007 Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth John Swinney MSP, announced details of work targeted at delivering lower ferry fares for Scotland's island communities. The first step is a study to establish the most effective and sustainable structure for a Road Equivalent Tariff (RET) and to consider proposals for operating a pilot scheme for setting ferry fares in Scotland. This study is now due to be completed at the end of March.

CalMac supports any initiative which brings economic and social benefit to the island communities we serve.  CalMac will work with the Scottish Government to ensure effective implementation of its pilot scheme.

Further details of the RET pilot scheme and an opportunity to leave comments or your questions concerning RET and its effects are available below.
