Background

This initiative was formed via the CalMac Community Board.  It is an event in which a selection of successful business owners from around the network deliver a series of on-board workshops to targeted individuals (delegates) who may have considered the idea of owning a business on the islands and becoming residents there.

This event objective encapsulates two concepts: the core being that of providing a platform to engage individuals (delegates) who may have considered the idea of owning a business on the islands and the secondary idea of becoming residents there a networking/connectivity event aiming to bring together businesses and entrepreneurs across the network.

The primary idea promotes the longer term ambition of the project being an economic enabler; not just a short term networking outlet.  CalMac will facilitate the initial pilot, although should the model be a success, additional communities thereafter may wish to employ the model within their area and/or on their route.  This would be promoted via the Community Board and the Community Engagement that they do on a regular basis, with only initial support from us.
