Coll Bird Festival: the best time for corncrakes
April and May are excellent months for birds on Coll, and if you catch the ferry in time for the Coll Bird Festival you can take advantage of guided walks and sea safaris round the island.
RSPB reserve wardens will be on hand to introduce you to the star species of the island - the corncrake, with a call 'like a coin being dragged along a comb'. The last week of April is the best time to hear - and maybe see - corncrakes, as they arrive from their wintering grounds in South-east Africa. There are plenty of seabirds too, so don't miss out on the boat trips.
Visit our Coll destination page for more information on Coll and how to get there.
