Gylen Castle
Gylen Castle is one of Scotland's most attractive castles and sits on the edge of a rocky ridge at the southern end of the island. The castle boasts spectacular views of the mainland including Ardnamurchan and Oban and also the Isle of Mull. The castle was built by the MacDougalls in 1582 and was restored thanks to a £300,000 grant from Historic Scotland and also £200,000 from clan members around the world. This enabled a specialist architectural team to restore elements of the castle, including its oriel window and its vaulted cellar.
