In collaboration with Sgoil Lionacleit, Balivanich Primary and Uist Youth Cafe, Uibhist Squais engaged 50 young people living in Uist spraking their interest and enjoyment for the game of squash.
Support from the CalMac Community Fund allowed Uibhist Squais to bring their court up to scratch and purchase equipment such as rackets and goggles for different age groups. In turn, the group were able to offer opportunities for young people to engage in the sport throughout the winter months.
Physical activity and sport have a transformative effect on communities. They provide opportunities for people to connect with their neighbourhoods and come together in shared activities which inspire and motivate. Sport and physical activity are a powerful means of addressing isolation, building community cohesion and developing confidence.
