Skye Youth Pipe Band

Skye Youth Pipe Band

Skye Youth Pipe Band is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) whose purpose is the advancement of heritage and culture through the encouragement and promotion of Highland bagpipes and drumming for young people aged up to 18 years in Skye.

Getting to competition standard involves intense practising and commitment from everyone in the band. Next year the Band aims to compete at the European Pipe Band Championships, a huge event that takes place in Bught Park in Inverness in late June.

Competitions provide a focus and motivation for honing the young peoples' skills. They require dedication and commitment from the young people in the Band. They also build team spirit and loyalty. This project aim will succeed if all Band members, including the very young new ones who still have much work to do, manage to perform in the Inverness competition in 2020.

The legacy is in the young people of Skye learning piping and drumming skills that are such an important part of our culture and history, and need to be kept alive and carried forward for future generations. These skills can only be learned from the previous generation of pipers and drummers, and by having access to the opportunities and equipment to enable them to learn and practice.
