Taigh Sgìre Sholais

Taigh Sgìre Sholais

Taigh Sgìre Sholais is a not-for-profit community organisation in the village of Sollas, North Uist. It is run by a voluntary committee. The organisation exists to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare, for recreation and leisure-time activities, to enhance and improve the life of all citizens on the island and visitors to our community.

Our project will provide an outdoor play and recreation area for young people, at our local community centre, where they can enjoy being active outside, on their own or socialising with young friends and family. Play and active learning equipment, for early years to teens, will be incorporated in the play area to improve young people's fitness, strength, co-ordination and flexibility.

With support from the CalMac Community Fund, this project will have a lasting legacy by providing robust play equipment in our community which will last for many years. It will provide young people and families with an activity free of charge and will provide a meeting place for families It will encourage young people to play, to enjoy the outdoors and have a more active lifestyle. It will give young people a safe space to socialise together, which is particularly important in a rural area of low population. It will impact on physical and social wellbeing, for healthier lives.
