This race was first started more than 100 years ago when a Ghurka, one of a group of climbers visiting Skye, ran barefoot to the top of Glamaig and back. His time was unbeaten for the first few years of the race.
The current record of around 45 mins for men, and 55 mins for women, over 4.5 miles, ascending 2400ft, is a sure test of determination and endurance!
Glamaig has been described as "one of the toughest races in Scottish hill-running" and although it is classed a short Category A race we always insist that all competitors must wear or carry windproof body cover. Given Skye's variable weather conditions competitors are also advised to have waterproof body cover available too as in adverse weather conditions we will insist that this is worn or carried instead.
