CalMac Culture Music Competition Winners
SOPHIE ROGERS & LEANNE SMITH WIN CALMAC MUSIC COMPETITION A competition for aspiring original singer songwriters organised by award-winning ferry operator Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) has been won by Sophie Rogers & Leanne Smith.
They now have the chance to showcase their musical talents with Sophie appearing at the HebCelt Festival and Leanne appearing at the Tiree Music Festival through a half hour slots live onstage. Eight acts, whittled down from more than 50 entries competed for the slot at the final at the famous Glasgow's King Tuts last night (Sunday, June 15) compared by comedian Bruce Morton.
Cathy Craig, Commercial Director at CalMac, said: "Sophie & Leanne are worthy winner of this competition and we look forward to seeing them play this summer. The HebCelt and Tiree Music Festivals are important events in our area and we are delighted to have been able to use our sponsorship of both events to create a fantastic opportunity for budding singer songwriters to take to the stage.
Judge Daniel Gillespie, Managing Director, Skerryvore says 'Great opportunity to get new artists for our festival. After getting involved in a partnership with CalMac, we have launched a new stage at the festival called, 'CalMac Live Lounge'.
Caroline MacLennan, Festival Director, Hebridean Celtic Festival says 'It's really important for a festival of ours to be promoting emerging talent. Really happy to be part of this'.
Also included in the prize is entry to the festival plus 3 tickets for friends camping passes/tent/sleeping bags and travel across by ferry. Also expenses of £250 will be allocated upon arrival at the festival.
