From Oban, take the ferry to Mull, and then onwards to the tiny island of Ulva, lying just off Mull's west coast. From there, you'll continue on to Staffa, passing Inch Kenneth - a burial place of Scottish Kings. The approach to Staffa is breath taking. The great basalt columns and caves will be visible. Landing at Clamshell Cave - you'll see it's reminiscent of a ship's hull. From there, it's a brief walk to the awe inspiring Fingal's Cave - formed entirely of hexagonal basalt columns, and famed for its natural acoustics, which inspired Mendelssohn to compose his overture - The Hebrides in 1829.
