Bowmore Distillery - Tour to the Isle of Islay

Distillery

About this tour

'The Queen of the Hebrides', Islay is known for its mild climate and rich peaty soil making it ideal for creating whisky. It's home to no fewer than eight distilleries.

Bowmore is the island's administrative capital and crossroads. Just 11 years its junior, the distillery at the community's heart produces the first Islay Malt. Bowmore's celebrated Single Malt has been distilled on this jewel of an island ever since 1779. This makes it the first of Islay's eight distilleries chronologically speaking (and by taste too, many would say). Bowmore is widely acknowledged to be among the finest and most perfectly balanced single malts in the world.

This day tour begins at the ferry port of Kennacraig - arriving in Islay at Port Ellen some two hours later. The tour then proceeds to Bowmore where a tour of the Distillery and Visitor Centre is included.

The return to the mainland is via Port Askaig which affords the tour the opportunity to sight see Islay taking in the eastern side of the island before arriving at the port. The journey back to Kennacraig includes afternoon tea onboard.
