Largs port - refurbished ticket office and waiting room area customer FAQs

From 20 February, while we undertake work in the Largs ticket office, a temporary ticket office and waiting area will be located on the pier. This area will be smaller than the port office and will have limited seating. Customer toilet facilities will not be available in the port office during the closure; customers can use nearby public toilets or onboard facilities.

We have provided more information on the works taking place in our FAQs below.

What’s happening at Largs?

We are upgrading and refreshing the Largs port office to improve the experience for customers and colleagues. This work is part of a wider programme to align and standardise port facilities across the CalMac network. Largs is the first port to receive this type of upgrade.

Why are we doing this work now?

The upgrade will improve comfort, accessibility and information for customers, and provide better, safer working facilities for colleagues. While there will be short-term disruption, this work will deliver long-term benefits for both customers and staff.

When will the work take place?

The current ticket office and waiting area will close from 20 February 2026. Construction work is planned to start on 23 February and continue through March, with completion expected by the end of March 2026.

Will ferry services continue as normal?

Yes, ferry services will continue to operate as scheduled throughout the works. Always check the service status for the route, before travel for the latest information.

What facilities will be available while the port office is closed?

A temporary ticket office and waiting area will be in place on the pier. This area will be smaller than the port office and will have limited seating. Customer toilet facilities will not be available in the port office during the closure; customers can use nearby public toilets or onboard facilities. Ticketing facilities will be in place however customers are encouraged to purchase their tickets online. What improvements will we see when the port office reopens?

The upgraded port office will include a refurbished building aligned with CalMac branding, refreshed public toilets, a new digital passenger information system, an ergonomically improved customer service desk, improved lighting and heating in public areas, as well as other improvements to staff areas. Further improvements such as a replacement main entrance door into the port office and updated wayfinding signage will follow once the port office has reopened.
