Customer update – staying in touch with information about our services this festive season

As is the norm over the festive period, there will be changes to some of our sailings and timetables. So – if you’re planning to travel on a service, which you’ve not yet booked, or if you might use one of our Turn Up and Go services over that period, we thought it would be useful to share a brief reminder on the ways in which we keep you updated about our services.

How some of our services operate over the festive holiday period

We deliver our service year-round – however, no services run on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.  On the bank holiday days – 26 December and 2 Januaryand over the weekends which follow – some of our routes will operate a slightly different service. This could be an amended timetable or a ‘request sailings’ service- where a particular sailing will operate only when requested by a certain time.

So, here’s how to stay in touch with us about our services:

Timetables

Our timetable pages on our website and app carry our published timetables which detail the days and times of our sailings. If you’re planning to travel on a bookable route but haven’t yet made your reservation, or you’re planning to use one of our Turn Up and Go services over the period – it's a good idea to check the notes section of the timetable – we'll detail any changes to how the service will run on a bank holiday such as those over the festive period.

Using the timetables on our website

It's important to remember that this timetable information on our timetable pdfs is not live data. Once you’ve checked a timetable, you can then check our service status pages which will carry the very latest information on each route and will detail changes or any potential service disruptions that route is experiencing.

Using timetable search functions on the app

Within the app there is a helpful timetable search function.  Again, the data isn’t live – so do use this in conjunction with our service status tab on the app, which will detail all the latest information on the route you’re planning to travel on.

Service changes pages

If we need to publish an amended timetable for a period – it will be highlighted on our service changes pages

Our app

If you've not already done so – we do encourage you to download the CalMac app which includes service information across our network. Use the ‘my routes’ option to save your favourite routes – and receive push notifications on these direct to your device.

We’ve recently made some changes to the app, which include:

  • Improving the layout of timetable results to show earlier/later sailings and their duration time.

  • Adding a banner to highlight where there’s specific route information for you to be aware of.

  • Adding a service status warning banner which makes it easier for you to spot critical service information.

  • Ensuring the service status of each route is now in date order for easier reading.

  • Adding a ‘view future updates’ tag on service status to encourage customer to read ahead.

With very best wishes from all of us at Caledonian MacBrayne this festive season.
