CalMac Ferries Ltd signs Public Service Contract to provide Clyde and Hebrides Ferry services
Back
20 September 2007
CalMac Ferries Ltd (CFL) has today (Thursday, September 20, 2007) signed a Public Service Contract (PSC) to provide the Clyde and Hebrides Ferry Services (CHFS).
The Scottish Government contract, which is effective from October 1, 2007, will last for 6 years. The signing marks the company’s successful completion of a tender process in accordance with the requirements procedures set out in the Scottish Government’s Invitation to Tender (ITT).
Speaking at the formal signing of the contract documentation in Glasgow, CalMac Ferries Ltd’s Chairman Peter Timms said: “Today’s signing marks the completion of a tender process which is the culmination of more than six years’ sustained hard work by very many people. I would like to pay particular tribute to the efforts delivered by everyone in the company. Last year marked the start of a complex company restructuring process that led to the creation of CalMac Ferries Ltd as the ferry operator and Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMAL) as the asset leasing company. Since then, the board of CFL has introduced fundamental changes to its day to day management and operations, and has worked closely with CMAL. I firmly believe these changes, together with over 150 years’ experience of operating in the CHFS network area, have resulted in a value for money tender which meets, and indeed in some cases exceeds the requirements of the Service Specification. Our appointment as the CHFS operator will enable the communities we serve to benefit from the stability and continuity we can offer, now we all have clarity about the way forward about how the Scottish Government wishes us to operate the service.”
Mr Timms continued: “CalMac’s Mission Statement details our determination to providing a safe, reliable, high quality service, focusing on customers’ needs and comfort, whilst providing value for money, a stimulating workplace for our employees, and protecting the environment. We are committed to the very highest management standards and aim to be acknowledged as the leading UK ferry operating company. Now we look forward to working with the Scottish Government and our asset-owning colleagues to further develop the services as we go forward with the PSC.”
Background note:
CalMac’s tender was originally submitted to the Scottish Executive in Glasgow at 1pm on Thursday, May 10. The deadline for submission was Friday, May 11 at 3pm.
