Benbecula Distillery is a new island distillery on the Isle of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides, inspired by its maritime influence and Hebridean culture. Founded in 2024 by local businessman and crofter, Benbecula’s mission is to craft outstanding whisky while supporting the island region.

Built with a strong sense of place and provenance, the distillery is creating a distinctly Hebridean single malt shaped by soft peat, island heather florals, and maritime influence. While our whisky matures on site, visitors are invited to experience our story, sample our spirits, and enjoy the distillery offerings.

Visitor Centre, Café & Shop

Our visitor centre is open to visitors year-round and offers a welcoming space to learn about the distillery, explore our spirits, and spend time unwinding over a cup of tea.

The distillery café serves quality coffee, homemade baking, and a full lunch menu with locally sourced seafood, making it an ideal stop whether you’re arriving on the island or heading off on your next journey. With views across the surrounding landscape, it’s a comfortable place to pause and take in Benbecula.

The shop features our range of spirits, including Wheelhouse Whisky, a series of small-batch whiskies released while our own single malt matures, alongside our gin and rum. Visitors will also find works and treasures from local artists in our carefully curated space, with plenty of reading and interactive learning about the Hebrides.

Location & Access

Benbecula Distillery is located at the north point of Benbecula, at the causeway to North Uist, making it an easy and rewarding stop for those travelling to or from the island. We are a 25 minutes drive from the Lochmaddy Ferry Terminal, and 40 minutes from the Berneray Ferry Terminal. If arriving by plane, it is a 10 minutes drive from Benbecula Airport.
