Bunnahabhain Distillery, Isle of Islay

Bunnahabhain Distillery, Isle of Islay

DISCOVER BUNNAHABHAIN, HARD TO SAY. EASY TO LOVE

On the far reaches of Islay’s rugged coastline, Bunnahabhain waits to be discovered. Established in 1881 and pronounced Bunn-na-ha-venn, meaning “mouth of the river” in Scots Gaelic, our distillery sits at the edge of land and sea, shaped by isolation, resilience and time.

For decades, Bunnahabhain was only accessible by boat. Today, a single-track road leads you to one of Islay’s most remote and rewarding distillery experiences. Here, unpeated Islay single malt is crafted differently, drawing character from mineral-rich Margadale spring water, coastal maturation and a patient, hands-on approach to whisky making.

Step inside our iconic Warehouse 9, where bracing sea air and time work quietly on our casks. Discover a robust, complex and oily spirit, married with the finest sherry casks to create a rich, creamy mouthfeel. Always non-chill filtered and with no added colour, each dram is an honest expression of place, craft and character.

A Distillery with a Sense of Place

Bunnahabhain is more than a stop on a map. It is a living part of Islay’s story. Many of our team have family ties to the distillery, with generations of knowledge shaping every stage of production. This deep connection to the land, the loch and the local community gives every visit a warmth and authenticity that lingers long after the last dram.

Make Bunnahabhain Part of Your Islay Journey

Whether you are exploring Islay for the first time or returning to uncover more of its hidden corners, Bunnahabhain offers a distillery experience that is quietly different.

Take the road less travelled. Where sea meets the still - you’ll stand in awe before the tallest stills on the island, learning how their unique shape creates the signature Bunnahabhain character. It’s an experience that rewards the traveler willing to wander a little further, offering memories as full-bodied as the drams themselves.
