Mount Stuart

Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute

A remarkable neo-gothic mansion. Built in the 19th Century, Mount Stuart is a feat of Victorian engineering and was one of the most technologically advanced houses of its age. Mount Stuart was the first house in Scotland to be purpose built with electricity as many homes had been converted to electric light prior to 1880.Testament to the engineers involved in the construction of the house - all of these features are still working today.

It boasts impressive architecture, lavish interiors, local heritage, extensive gardens, regional produce and hand-made gifts.

Mount Stuart features a private beach that visitors can access. The beach is located on the shore overlooking the River Clyde and is often visited by seals basking on the rocks.

Don't miss the café, either, where the chefs use as much produce from the kitchen garden as they can.
