History:

Some time ago, the old farmstead at Torabhaig was identified as the perfect location for a small, traditional distillery, with all the factors needed to make good, robust island whisky. We were also fortunate to start with a handsome, rugged building, just in need of some love and attention.

After four years our 19th century steading was fully restored to hold the gleaming copper stills and traditional wooden wash-backs and should allow us to produce whisky here for the next two hundred years. Our stills were commissioned in 2017 and we started on our journey to produce Torabhaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Whisky:

In March 2024 we launched the third expression in our Torabhaig Legacy Series, Torabhaig Cnoc na Moine. As with our first two expressions, Torabhaig 2017 and Torabhaig Allt Gleann, you can still explore the elegant side of peat smoke which has become our signature. The difference with this third expression is we have balanced the peat smoke with a delicate influence from our sherry casks. Torabhaig Cnoc na Moine is available on our tours, in our café and from the shop.

Tours:

The best way to really get to know us is a guided tour of the distillery. Our tour will take you behind the scenes into the heart of the production area and give you a unique insight into life in a working Hebridean Island distillery. Our guides will help you experience all stages of the whisky making process, grain to spirit, before concluding with a tutored whisky tasting. With three tours to choose from this year, you can book onto a regular tour, a chocolate tour or a warehouse tour. Some of these are few and far between so it really is advisable to book.

Café and Shop:

Our café serves freshly prepared light lunches, home-made soup, refreshments and baking. This can be enjoyed sitting in our cosy café or on a fine day, outside in the courtyard.  The distillery shop is well stocked with whiskies, locally produced gifts and our own range of distillery apparel.
