How will you support me when I am unable to travel on the cancelled Mallaig – Lochboisdale route?

Passenger Rights during the Mallaig- Lochboisdale disruption

We have been managing the delay to the overhaul periods of some of the vessels within the fleet and as a result, we have made some changes to deployment plans to support services across the network. This means, until at least 17 May – there will be no service operating directly between Lochboisdale and Mallaig.

We are providing targeted support to customers who would have travelled on this route at this time. Customers who would have ordinarily travelled between Mallaig-Lochboisdale, but who now need to book on an alternative route to reach their intended destination in South Uist, can apply to be refunded for the difference in the cost of a journey in line with the following criteria

  • You are making a new booking for an alternative route(s), which would have ordinarily been on Mallaig - Lochboisdale
  • Your original intended route to Mallaig – Lochboisdale is not available due to the current technical disruption – and
  • You need to take an alternative, longer route at additional cost.

Although, as part of your new booking, you will pay the full cost of the reservation, you can then apply for a refund where there is a difference in cost to what you would have paid for on the Mallaig – Lochboisdale route. You can apply for a refund by completing a Passenger Rights claim form

This applies to new bookings for those who had originally planned to travel between Mallaig-Lochboisdale only.

You need to submit your claim within two months of the original journey.

Details on Passenger Rights including Passenger Rights Claim form.

Customers who had bookings in place for travel between Mallaig-Lochboisdale before the route was disrupted and who are moved onto the alternative crossing by our team will not be charged the difference in cost, so there is no need to submit a claim form.

Alternative routes to South Uist

You can travel via North Uist (Uig -Lochmaddy), or via Barra (Oban – Castlebay).

If you are travelling via Harris (Uig – Tarbert), you will then need onward travel on the Leverburgh-Berneray service.

If you are travelling via Castlebay, Barra – please remember to ensure you have booked an onward sailing between Ardmhor (Barra) – Eriskay, to then travel on to South Uist.
