In praise of our people

Our team in Craignure and Oban received this heartfelt letter of sincere thanks from a customer who has been travelling with us since 1970, whom we were able to help in the most trying of circumstances.

'I am painfully aware that CalMac features in the press mostly because of bad news, bad service, bad weather etc. In my long experience of having travelled all over the Hebrides since 1970 I have experienced nothing but great service, caring staff and outstanding professionalism.

‘To this end I would like to thank all CalMac Staff who helped me squeeze onto the 6.30pm Ferry from Craignure on June 8 this year. My wife suffered a severe stroke but withing the hour a team by helicopter from Glasgow, the Ambulance, the auxiliary medics and the Police were on the scene. My wife was quickly stabilised and was flown the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow within half an hour, where, until three days ago, she remained in pretty poor shape. She is now improving and given a fair wind will completely recover.

‘John, who works with CalMac, provided me with the number for the Craignure Ferry office and I was told that I would get onto the 6.30 ferry to Oban. Everyone we met at the terminal and on board were considerate, kind and obliging, John waiting in the lounge area to check we had boarded OK.

So, thank you CalMac, from the bottom of my heart, you all made the hell I was experiencing bearable. Needless to say, all the staff at the hospital were, and are, equally wonderful. I now know something that I have been suspicious about for the last 60 odd years.  The people of Scotland second to none.
