Making waves

Creativity and Scotland's west coast islands have always gone hand in hand. As we celebrate 175 years of Caledonian MacBrayne, Making Waves shines a light on the people inspired by the islands and communities we serve.

Through a series of short films, we'll meet musicians, actors, makers and creators whose connections to the islands continue to shape their creativity. Each story explores the enduring relationship between island life and creativity.

Stuart Murdoch

Stuart Murdoch is the singer of the much loved Scottish band Belle & Sebastian. When we first decided to feature one of their songs for our ‘Where Next?’ campaign, we didn’t fully realise that Stuart had such strong ties to CalMac - with his dad having worked with the brand for many years. This was a story we knew we had to explore, so we took Stuart on a trip to Arran, the scene of many of his childhood holidays, to find out more about his very special family relationship with Caledonian MacBrayne.
