LHYCA Scaladale Centre

Scaladale is a purpose built Outdoor Centre at the the base of the Chisham Mountain, the highest peak on the Outer hebrides. The centre's primary focus is to provide personal development programmes for the young people of the Western Isles. The centre also offers visitors to these islands, a range of activities and accommodation. Our experienced and qualified staff will keep you safe in what we consider to be the best outdoor environment in the UK. We provide all of the gear. Our guides are keen to educate and share their knowledge of human and natural history.

Sea Kayaking

Explore an amazing environment and discover a range of wildlife including; otters, eagles, deer, seals, jellyfish, sea urchins and starfish. The views here are amazing and waterfalls, rock faces and mountains are abundant. We provide real experiences and a standard sea kayak tour is four to six kilometers. We use closed cockpit kayaks for most of our trips, but we do offer an option for families and couples in the way of double sit on top kayaks. Trips are adapted to weather conditions and client ability.

Coasteering

This is a truly exciting activity and if you have never been coasteering, you need to! Here on the outer hebrides, the locations we use are outstanding. During the activity participants will have the opportunity to explore nature whilst challenging themselves. Coasteering is a blend of scrambling, jumping and swimming. From both of our locations, the views are amazing and on a good day, one can see the Isle of Skye.

Gorge Scrambling

Gorge Scrambling is a great activity for the whole family and we work in two fantastic locations. The activity will be pitched at your level and all people will be encouraged to expand their comfort zones. Gorge Scrambling is similar to Coasteering and there will be scrambling, jumping and swimming. The water is fresh and there is more shelter from the wind in the gorge.

Clisham Hiking

Reach the summit of the Clisham (799m). Hire one of our qualified instructors to guide you.

Wild Camping

Join one of our Clisham Basecamp hikes and camping experiences. The camp is at the top of Glen Scaladale. You will be surrounded by nature and boulders and this landscape is rarely seen and explored. Seeing hares and deer is very normal. During the trip we will reach the summit of the Clisham. There will be a focus on campcraft and cooking quality food. Some kit can be provided but people will need to provide some of their own (quality walking boots for example).

Mountain Biking

We have lots of trails here on Harris and Lewis. We also have a bike park with graded, shorter trails. Our fleet of high quality hardtails are perfect for what we do. We also offer bike hire.

Power Boat trips

If you’re looking to explore those remote areas, take part in a beach clean or visit Seaforth Island. Climb aboard our coded powerboat!
