Applications are invited for the permanent position of Fleet Spares Controller. 

Role Overview

Asset Management in CalMac will deliver world class operational excellence, evolving through the life of the CHFS2 contract. It will embrace a continuous improvement ethos; restructure relationships with key partners and suppliers; provide the organization and technology, and empower colleagues to efficiently, effectively and proactively maintain the operational fleet.
The role within the Asset Management team will have a clear strategic focus on stores management. The position holder will be responsible for ensuring the Asset Management Directorate achieves excellence through the provision of efficient and effective stores management & controls within the technical supply chain.   

Principal Accountabilities

•    Reporting to the Logistics Manager. The purpose of the role would be to Manage, co-ordinate and prioritise the activities of the department, which includes the Fleet spares assistants, and for co-ordinating the provision of call out cover for the group of employees to meet the company's requirements
•    Ensuring that required safety standards are managed in areas under his /her control, and that the appropriate safety equipment is used
•    Co-ordinating and prioritising logistics requirements relating to ashore fleet spares and equipment
•    Vessel visits to carry out audits
•    Managing Master / Related parts and Max/ Min levels in line with vessel requirements
•    Ensure that any policies and procedures are up to date and adhered to
•    The receipt and storage of technical items received at Gourock
•    Issuing of parts & technical consumables as required
•    Ensuring that stock records are kept of technical items on hand and issued, and that the location of all items and fleet spares and equipment are known and appropriately identified in conjunction with CPS
•    Ensuring that any company vehicles allocated to his / her care are kept clean and tidy, that fuel uplifts and mileage are recorded monthly and the vehicles are serviced at the appropriate intervals
•    Assisting sourcing and procurement of spare parts and materials for use at breakdowns, annual overhauls and in service as required by Superintendents and Technical Manager's
•    Ensuring records of maintenance schedules for plant, machinery & ready to use spare units are kept up to date
•    Control of major vessels strategic key spares in conjunction with the responsible Technical Manager's, Superintendents and Logistics Manager
•    Assisting Small Vessels with management & development of spares inventory in conjunction with Technical Superintendent's and Logistics Manager
•    Manage the handing and despatch of items from vessels for repair or return
•    Be available to cover stores call out
•    The operation of a forklift as required

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

•    Minimum of 10 years' experience in Stores Management within a fast moving environment with knowledge of the marine & electrical Sector
•    Be able to demonstrate a high level of competence & knowledge in all aspects of stores management
•    Have excellent analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with strong communication, influencing and collaborative working skills
•    Be able to demonstrate an ability to foster close working relationships both internally and external suppliers and partners
•    Demonstrate experience and/ or understanding of processes
•    Experience of computerised stock systems
