Ardrossan Harbour Upgrades - Troon Timetable Consultation - August 2022
Troon - Brodick/Campbeltown Community Consultation - August 2022
Due to the introduction of new vessels and related infrastructure upgrade requirements at Ardrossan, the CalMac service will temporarily relocate to Troon in Summer 2023, when MV Glen Sannox is expected to enter service. CalMac have conducted initial community consultations to discuss the planned move and the potential timetables which may be in place for around two years. These sessions were held in Ardrossan, Brodick and Campbeltown. CalMac invited local stakeholders, businesses and communities to attend and view proposals and provide feedback.
Consultations were held in Ardrossan, Campbeltown and Brodick on the following dates and times:
The public consultation events seeked to gain community views on draft temporary timetable options for the Troon-Brodick and Troon-Campbeltown service, as well as a brief update on the temporary relocation to Troon being co-ordinated by the Ardrossan Harbour Upgrades project.
A questionnaire was available in hard copy to fill it out at the consultation and an online survey. The survey is now closed.

Project Background
In February 2021, a decision was made by the Ardrossan Taskforce to temporarily relocate the Brodick/Campbeltown service to Troon to ensure service continuity whilst harbour upgrade works are completed at Ardrossan.
There are two factors which will trigger the move are:
Ardrossan Harbour upgrades commencing
MV Glen Sannox introduction into service (earliest delivery date Spring 2023)
Although the dates for relocating to Troon are still to be confirmed, the Ardrossan services will relocate to Troon for a period of approximately 21 months(-/+).
This would be delivered as follows: Troon Marine Works - Troon Ferry Terminal - Glen Sannox enters service - Ardrossan services move to Troon - Ardrossan Harbour upgrades complete - Service returns to Ardrossan.

The Process of Developing Draft Timetables
Due to passage and turnaround time required at Troon, new timetables are required.
When producing the temporary timetables, CalMac follow the process below:
Define | Develop | Optimise | Produce |
Define service requirements - Frequency Define operational parameters - Turnaround Time, Passage Time, Bunkering, Maintenance, Berth Availability | Develop operation timetable - Draft Timetable (We are currently at this stage) | Optimise operational timetable - Transport Integration, User Needs, e.g. Freight, Healthcare, Shops, Workers, Visitors Assess financial impact - Crew Requirements, Port Staff, Requirements, Fuel Cost, Berthing and Passenger Dues | Produce final timetable - Published Timetable |
At this stage, CalMac have developed six draft temporary timetables for review and feedback.
Elements Considered
The following elements have been considered when forming the six indicative draft timetable options:
Feedback from the initial service users' requirements via passenger surveys and community engagement services
Passage time, turnaround time, maintenance requirements, bunkering time and berth availability
Main timetable differences can be found in the table below (Ardrossan versus Troon):
