Bonnie Prince Charlie trail

Follow in Bonnie Prince Charlie's Footprints

The Outer Hebrides are steeped in history. Bonnie Prince Charlie, otherwise known as Prince Charles Edward Stuart, first set foot on Scottish soil on the Isle of Eriskay ahead of the infamous 1745 rebellion. He fled back to the Outer Hebrides following his defeat at the Battle of Culloden. The Uists, Eriskay, and Benbecula are closely associated with his story. You can follow this unique chapter of Scottish history by exploring the Bonnie Prince Charlie trail, which charts the footsteps of the Young Pretender during his time on the Outer Hebrides.
