Traditional turf-roofed dwellings on Lewis
Blackhouses were the traditional buildings common throughout the Hebrides, but there are very few left. You can stay in one at the Gearrannan Blackhouse Village , with a mix of hostel and individual accommodation in the turf-roofed dwellings. They're minutes from the sea with great coastal walks, and they make an ideal base for exploring the wider island.
