Survey Report for 19/05/2019 - Ardrossan - Campbeltown

We had favourable weather for the first Clyde survey and were made extremely welcome by the crew of MV Isle of Arran.  Soon after we left Ardrossan we were allowed onto the bridge and settled into surveying from the outside bridge wings.

With Arran on our starboard side we had a sea state of 1 and we soon picked up a pair of harbour porpoise crossing the bow.  However, the wind continued to rise a little and the sea state got worse, but thankfully the rain held off.  We could see the massive gannetry of Ailsa Craig off our port side as we sailed towards the Kintyre Peninsula.  In Campbeltown sea loch there were a large number of gannets feeding but we didn't pick up any marine mammals below them.

The return journey was relatively quiet but we did record another 2 harbour porpoise off the Isle of Arran.  We were back at Ardrossan by 7:30 pm.  This is a great little afternoon and early evening survey.

Many thanks to CalMac and the crew of MV Isle of Arran for facilitating our surveying.
