Seven day sailings

In February 2009, several residents of Lewis and Harris approached the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) to say that CalMac's failure to provide Sunday sailings on the Stornoway and Ullapool service was in breach of the Equality Act 2006.  In light of this challenge, CalMac sought an Opinion from Senior Counsel who agreed that CalMac was acting unlawfully.

Following the publication of the legal Opinion sought from Gordon Jackson QC by the Lord's Day Observance Society, CalMac asked its own QC to review his earlier Opinion.

As a result of these legal opinions from Senior Counsel which concluded that the Company would be acting unlawfully by continuing not to provide such Sunday sailings, CalMac decided to introduce Sunday sailings on this route with effect from July 19, 2009.
